Who’s your international of the year?

With the voting period for the 2012 inthemix awards drawing to a close (eight days to go, people!), the time to cast your vote for the best of our local dance scene is now. But the awards don’t only champion the good stuff going on in Australia – each year, we also crown the voters favourite international act. While, yes, it’s Tiesto and Armin van Buuren who’ve spent the most time at the top, there’s been plenty of other memorable members of the Top 5 over the years: Carl Cox, Paul van Dyk and circa 2005-6, Krafty Kuts all earning their spot.

So to help you decide who to give your vote to this year – and to have a look at who we think might take out the prize – we’ve had a look at the incumbents, the challengers and the wildcards for 2012. Dive in and don’t forget to have your say!

The Incumbents

Since 2005, the battle for ITM’s #1 International has always been between Tiesto and Armin van Buuren. Each year of the awards since then, the vie for the title has been a game of musical chairs: the pair flipping between first and second place year on year. Currently, Tiesto’s one ahead of Armin with four wins to three, but it’s anyone’s guess who’ll claim the 2012 spot.

So how’s Tiesto’s 2011-2012 report card looking? Impressive, as always. As well as heading our way at the top of the Stereosonic bill, Tiesto’s kicked off his In The Booth video series and kept the brilliant status updates rolling. He’s also clocked up some big remixes: the Mission Impossible theme and that certain Gotye song each getting the Tijs spin. And with Tiesto being, well, Tiesto, we don’t have any doubt he’ll kill it again this year.

Meanwhile, Armin’s been in typical fine form the past 12 months. Since the last ITM Awards, the Dutchman has compiled the latest edition of A State of Trance, headlined last year’s mammoth edition of Stereosonic, hosted another ASOT event and to top it all off, the man was even sport enough to have a laugh along with our April Fool’s joke at his expense.
