Watch Steve Aoki help Larry King get his head around dance music

At 80 years-old and with over 50,000 interviews to his name, Larry King is a true television icon. He’s not, however, an authority on all things dance music, so he recently called on Dim Mak’s main man Steve Aoki to school him. The pair sat down for a one-on-one on Larry King Now, timed to coincide with the September 30 release date of Aoki’s new album Neon Future I.

While the LP occupied some of the conversation, the host also dished out some endearing questions your grandparents might ask, like what a DJ really does and whether dance tracks have vocals. Aoki also fielded questions about his showmanship onstage, from the raft-riding to the cake-throwing. As he puts it, “I only cake people who are screaming for it.” You can watch the interview in full below.

Having ticked ‘interview with Larry King’ off his bucket list, Aoki’s working hard to spread the word on Neon Future I in the months ahead. After showcasing some new material on Jimmy Kimmel Live, the DJ’s hitting a few stateside shows to keep the momentum up, including Hakkasan in Las Vegas and EDC Orlando, before heading down under for his headline slot on the Stereosonic tour.
