Watch a young David Guetta banging out prog-house in Ibiza
As French mainstage figurehead David Guetta cops flack around the world over his latest release – a big-room remix of the nursery rhyme If You’re Happy and You Know It (Clap Your Hands) – Space Ibiza has come to the rescue with a reminder of what a Guetta set used to sound like, in the period between his early days making French hip hop and his current chart-topping incarnation.
Over the weekend, Space Ibiza posted a video dug out from the depths of their archives, featuring a fresh-faced David Guetta playing the Terrace sometime in the late ‘90s, and absolutely smashing a mix that brings together DJ Rage’s Waiting (a driving edit of Donna Summers’ classic I Feel Love) with the iconic spoken word of Foremost Poets Moonraker (and mixing it on vinyl, naturally).
As Guetta proved with his Essential Mix back in May – which dug deep into the classic house records that inspired him back in the ‘90s – he’s still got a music collection to rival the most credible and underground of house acts; and from the comments on Space Ibiza’s Facebook post, it seems like their punters would like to see more of that old school Guetta. (The most-Liked Facebook comment opines that the video is from, “Before Guetta sold his soul to the devil.”)
Hit play below to watch Guetta boshing it out with the best, and marvel at the sheer, unabashed hedonism of Space Ibiza’s Terrace back in the ‘90s.
