Watch A-Trak show everyone what “real DJing” looks like
It’s been almost a year since A-Trak kicked off the whole #RealDJing hashtag and debate with an impassioned Instagram post that argued the case for bringing turntablism skills back to dance music, because “DJing is about taking risks.”
Then Craze went and kicked it up a notch with his insane routine using Kanye’s New Slaves, throwing shade at the showmanship antics of stars like Steve Aoki and David Guetta by laying down a routine that squeezed in pretty much every turntablism trick in the book.
If you enjoyed that clip last year, then A-Trak has something pretty special for you. The former child prodigy and DMC champion has filmed a new cutting and scratching masterclass using Jack Ü’s frenetic banger Beats Knockin and a handful of Fool’s Gold tracks. As the label boss wrote on Facebook, “DJing has changed so much since the days when I used to compete in DMC battles. It’s fun to continue to challenge myself and come up with tricks like this.”
The clip ends with a sample from A-Trak’s collab with Dipset rap legend Cam’ron, Dipshits, throwing down a challenge to every other turntablist-turned-festival-DJ: “So if you feelin’ like number one, get ready to be number two, ‘cause we back – Fool’s Gold.” Your move, Craze.
I made a new routine with Jack Ü “Beats Knockin”, check it out!! DJing has changed so much since the days when I used to compete in DMC battles. It’s fun to continue to challenge myself and come up with tricks like this. #RealDJing
