Vivid Live announces full 2014 line-up with killer parties

Sydney’s annual winter celebration of “light, music and ideas” Vivid returns from May 23 to June 1, with a rather special music line-up locked in for Vivid Live. We already knew that electronic pioneer Giorgio Moroder would be visiting for his first ever Australian DJ set (and an orchestral tribute to his oeuvre by The Heritage Orchestra), alongside an Opera House residency by indie rock legends The Pixies, The Presets joining forces with the Australian Chamber Orchestra, and The Pet Shop Boys playing Carriageworks.

Now, Vivid have announced a new raft of shows, including the first ever headline tour of Australia by elusive RNB siren Ms. Lauryn Hill and parties with Astral People, Future Classic, Goodgod and Siberian Nights. Jonti, Rainbow Chan and other members of the Astral People artist roster will be reprising their live rendition of The Avalanches classic Since I Left You (which blew our minds at OutsideIn festival last year) for a single performance on Saturday May 24, while Astral People will also be following up their massive party last year with another Studio session featuring acid house pioneers Phuture (in their Australian debut), L-Vis 1990 and Bok Bok of London’s “fluorescent futurists” Night Slugs and locals Andras Fox, Rainbow Chan, Ben Fester and Preacha.

Midnight Juggernauts are back with new “completely immersive sensory experience” AERIALS, which they’ll be premiering at the Studio party for their Siberian Nights series, alongside Mancunian techno master Andy Stott, Black Vanilla, DCM, Four Door and Siberia Records fam’ Cassius Select and FORCES. Future Classic are also returning to the Studio on Saturday May 31 with a yet-to-be-released line-up, but going off their Lapalux and Cashmere Cat-starring party last year we can expect big things, while Goodgod will take over the Theatre with cult Afro-disco musician Penny Penny and his seven-piece band.

The parties will sit alongside performances by critically-acclaimed singer-songwriters St. Vincent, Anna Calvi and James Vincent McMorrow, German piano-and-electronica innovator Nils Frahm and Kate Miller-Heidke; check out the full Vivid Live line-up here. All tickets go on sale 9am Monday March 31 at the Vivid Live website.
