Ultra locks in 2014 dates; headliner speculation starts early
Not long after the final firework lit up Bayfront Park, Ultra Music Festival HQ had already locked in the dates for 2014. While Ultra will have to address the Miami City Committee again to hold two weekends next year, the three-dayer of 28, 29 and 30 March 2014 is locked in. This year’s festival brought in crowds of over 150,000 ragers on both weekends, and there was no shortage of definitive moments.
Skrillex and Boys Noize officially debuted their Dog Blood project with a heaving 5pm set on a side stage, Swedish House Mafia played its last-ever show and set a new precedent for big-budget production, Deadmau5 came out of hiding to farewell his Rubik’s Cube, Carl Cox and Friends – including Eric Prydz in a rare appearance as Cirez D – boomed through the Mega Structure and Armin van Buuren presented A State Of Trance 600. Yes, that’s just skimming the surface.
After Sunday’s Swedish send-off, the question is, how to top it in 2014? To no one’s surprise, the name Daft Punk is swirling again (from insiders, too), with Thomas and Guy-Manuel said to be watching the Swedes from the VIP section. Now that we have confirmation Random Access Memories is for real, expect the festival rumours to escalate again.
On the final weekend of Ultra, inthemix had Dean Hammer, one of Swedish House Mafia’s official tour photographers, on-ground to capture the epic moments. Dive into our gallery below, then watch the full Armin van Buuren set from the first weekend, when he took the Main Stage out on a trance high.
