tyDi’s top five club tracks right now

Tyson ‘tyDi’ Illingsworth shot to national prominence in 2008: in a victory for Australian trance, he took out the top spot in the inthemix Awards for two years running, before going on to sign with Armada and tour the world; since then, tyDi’s relocated full-time to LA and expanded his musical palette to everything from melodic big-room house to a chill-out album. As tyDi prepares to return to Australia for his first local tour in a while – playing a series of dates around the country, including this Saturday July 26 at Marquee – we hit him up to find out which five tracks are top of his (metaphorical) record bag right now.

#5 Gesaffelstein – Pursuit

“This one isn’t new but I’ve only just started dropping it in my sets, the slow tempo makes for an incredible ‘vibe change’ in the middle of my sets. It’s one of those tunes I play where nobody really sees it coming. This producer actually inspired me to make a song called ‘A Puppet is Free as Long as He Loves His Strings,’ which is on my SoundCloud page now!”

#4 Oliver Heldens – Gecko

“For me personally this is house music at its best: simple but really fat on the dancefloor and not one of those annoying ‘bangers’ that eat your brain away after five minutes. There isn’t a show I’ve played where this hasn’t sent everyone crazy.”

#3 tyDi (Feat. Dia Frampton) – Stay

“My new single with vocals from Dia Frampton! It’s the first time that I’ve ever done a style like this and I’m really happy with it. More of an indie/folk crossed with EDM kinda vibe, it’s been going off at my shows here in America. Can’t wait to bring it home with me.”

#2 Gareth Emery (Feat. Bo Bruce) – U

“A beautiful song with beautiful vocals, that’s all that I really need to say! ”

#1 First State (Feat. Relyk) – Take The Fall

“This song is so perfect for the ending of a show: the energy is high and the feeling is huge. One of those songs that you can just feel rushing over you. I love it!”
