The Essential Mix of the Year goes to…

It’s been an exceptional year for Dan Snaith, the musical mastermind better known as Caribou. Not only did he release one of the year’s best albums in Our Love, stacked to the brim with some of the year’s best tunes, but he also delivered a stunning Essential Mix back in October, that saw Our Love cuts like Mars and Can’t Do Without You nestled in with the likes of Daft Punk, Armand van Helden and even Lil Wayne, in addition to exclusive tracks from Joy Orbison + Boddika, Pearson Sound, Anthony Naples, Les Sins and Daphni.

“There’s tracks in here I’ve been playing in my DJ sets for the last little while, there’s some of the music from my new album and there’s sections inspired by playing live with the band,” Snaith said at the time. “Maybe that’s why the music on this mix is so diverse, but for people who’ve seen me DJ before, that won’t be a surprise.”

It seems there was agreement from the judging panel for Essential Mix of the Year, comprised of Radio 1 royalty like Pete Tong, B. Traits and Danny Howard, as well as representatives from dance music media and last year’s winner Eric Prydz. The industry panel awarded Caribou’s mix the title of ‘Essential Mix of the Year’ for 2014; listen to the mix in full and check out Snaith’s “goofy grin” of triumph below.

Things ramp up for Caribou over the next few months; first thing in the new year he’ll be taking Our Love on a tour around the world, starting with dates in Australia for Laneway Festival and its attendant sideshows, before heading around Asia, North America and Europe.
