The ‘Epic Mashleg’ gets an angry deep house spin-off

With over 350,000 plays on SoundCloud, the ‘Epic Mashleg’ has paid off for its creators, Swedish duo Daleri. Lining up the drops of 16 tracks taken from from Beatport’s electro house and progressive house Top 100 charts, the tongue-in-cheek, minute-long mix has kicked off streams of comments on their SoundCloud and beyond about the state of mainstage EDM. Even the likes of Knife Party (whose festival monster LRAD was spared), Tiesto, Zedd, Sebastian Ingrosso and Madeon got in on the discussion.

The ‘it all sounds the same!’ reaction has got under the skin of this guy, who is sick of seeing the ‘Mashleg’ circulating, and believes the same principle could be applied to any genre, whether it’s hardstyle, trance or deep house. So here we have the Deep House Mashleg, sans tracklist. As the description goes: “I had a little trouble finding the ‘Pryda snare’ of deep house, but I’m pretty sure that Chicago stab Sylenth preset nails it.”

“I’m a lover of all electronic music, but I’m also not too stupid to realise that most electronic music sounds alike,” the mystery deep house mashleg-maker writes. “I’m going to puke if I see that mashleg posted one more time…By the way, this is all meant as a tongue-in-cheek parody, but most importantly not done on my own SoundCloud fan-page to gain likes.”

So, does this response make a fair point about “hipsters” looking down their noses at “distorted kick-drum epic house”? Or, like some of the comments here, does it just make you want to track down the tunes?
