The Chemical Brothers offer up free hour-long DJ mix

Rave pioneers the Chemical Brothers return to Australia this New Year’s to cap off another big year. The duo has snagged a Grammy nomination for its concert film Don’t Think (filmed at Japan’s hallowed Fuji Rock Festival), released the Olympics Cycling theme song Velodrome and set the elaborate live show aside for a while to DJ around the world. Tom Rowlands and Ed Simons will be in DJ mode at Shore Thing, Summadayze and Summafieldayze, having got in practise at the Warehouse Project in Manchester, Creamfields in the English countryside, Space Ibiza for We Love…Sundays and Big Beach Festival in Chiba, Japan, to name a few. The last time we saw The Chems in Australia, they were bringing it home on the Future Music Festival mainstage in 2011: we’re overdue for another round.

So what to expect from the Chems as DJs? From Swoon to Star Guitar to Hey Boy, Hey Girl, naturally their own weapons are worked into the mix, alongside twisted big room gear from like-minded producers. Ahead of the Australian tour (and that Christmas thing), The Chemical Brothers have put together a ‘special holiday mix’, titled When You Start Hating You’re Out Of Control. All they ask for in return is your email address (with a no-information-sharing promise). Starting out in psychedelic territory, When You Start Hating You’re Out Of Control spans various moods over 60 minutes. It’s not the kind of set you would expect to hear booming out across our festival fields this summer, however it’s unmistakeably the Chemical Brothers. Dive in below.
