Sydney’s grimiest rave den Club 77 has been resurrected

The birthplace of notorious, scene-changing club nights like Bang Gang, Starfvckers, Trashbags, Tweekin and fetish night Hellfire, 77 William St occupies a place in Sydney club lore as storied as the venue was dank, sweaty and sticky floored in its heyday.

The basement club quietly stopped hosting parties a little while back – Starfvckers moved out in January 2014 – but now it appears that Club 77 is making a comeback in a new form.

An image posted to the club’s Facebook page today promises “cocktails, food, fine wine, dancing,” alongside a string of photos of the aforementioned cocktails and food (like deep fried garlic and pretzel with molten cheese).

A post on the Facebook page also points out that, contrary to reports elsewhere, the revitalised venue is “NOT A GASTRO DINER. NOT PORTUGUESE.” As for what it is going to be, keep your eye on the rapidly updating 77 Facebook page.
