“Swedish House Mafia had three planes:” Watch the trailer for Annie Mac’s Superstar DJs series

“Ever wonder what it’s like to be a superstar DJ? Travel the world, live the dream, be treated like a demi-god?” That’s the lifestyle BBC Radio 1 broadcaster and DJ Annie Mac has teamed up with Channel 4 to explore, with Mac presenting a six-part documentary series focused on some of the biggest players in the dance music game.

Superstar DJs – which is set to air from this week – will explore recent today’s obsession with DJs as dance music continues to thrive worldwide. According to the press release, viewers can tune in for a “fly-on-the-wall style insight into what it takes for these DJs to live life on the road, the pressure they’re under on a nightly basis playing to tens of thousands of people, the moments of delirium from constant globe trotting and most importantly, the music that comes from them, be it from behind the decks or the studio.”

The first five episodes will feature special guests from various corners of dance music, all of whom Mac has plucked from the upper echelons of fame: main stage titan Tiesto, opinionated underground champion Seth Troxler, dance-pop darlings Disclosure, “National Treasure” Fatboy Slim and Mad Decent boss Diplo. “I think it’s very important that we represented the full spectrum of dance music today,” said Mac. The finale will present a special episode on DJ culture from past, present and future.

Mac, who will also serve as host, explains, “In 2014 dance music has never been so omnipresent in popular culture, and the DJs at the epicenter of it have never been more revered.” In the trailer for the series, we see Pete Tong reflecting on dance music’s private jet brigade, Carl Cox taking stock of the scene right now, and intriguing snippets of each ‘superstar’ featured.
