Stereosonic drops huge 2012 line-up
After much impatient waiting, wish-listing and rumour-mongering, now comes the time to lay eyes on the real deal: the 2012 Stereosonic line-up. And isn’t it a monster? The travelling dance festival once again presents a blockbuster roll-call of A-listers, fresh faces and scene legends to help kick off summer. With five stops across two weekends and a host of stages covering techno, trance, dubstep, electro, house and more, it’s the line-up that proves bigger is better. As well as a few returning heroes, Stereosonic ‘12 is also bringing some new faces and arenas to make this year the most diverse yet.
Where to begin? We’ve known for a while now that Dutch goliath Tiesto is in the top spot, following his pyro-heavy closing sets on the mainstage in 2010. With a new album in the works and his festival game-plan water-tight, he’s as headliner-worthy as they come. After pulling huge crowds at Stereosonic 2011, Swedish sensation Avicii is also locked in, with chart-ruling crossover king Calvin Harris completing the trifecta of DJ top-billers. From there, well, the list goes on. On the live front, there’s Example and the livewire antics of Major Lazer, while mainstage-ruling types like Laidback Luke, Chuckie and Martin Solveig are also bringing their CD wallets and USBs.
Stereosonic has always nailed the trance contingent, and 2012 is no different. Following his much-buzzed-about sets on last year’s tour, Dash Berlin is back, alongside Sander van Doorn, Markus Schulz, Aly & Fila, Orjan Nilsen and Simon Patterson. The mighty Carl Cox is also back on the bill, with his own arena now under the banner of ‘The Revolution Continues’. He’s not the only techno big gun, either. At last, Adam Beyer has signed on the dotted line to bring his Drumcode magic back down here, plus we’ll get festival-sized tech-house and techno from Joris Voorn and Loco Dice.
For the first time in Australia, there’s also a Hard Arena presented by L.A. gun Destructo and a stage curated by the forward-thinking Social Club in Paris. No doubt we’ll hear plenty more about what’s planned for those corners of the festival. Do you like bass? You’re in luck (again), thanks to speaker-rattling stars Bassnectar, Flux Pavilion, Excision, Datsik and Caspa.
One standout feature of the line-up is the checklist of names that ITMers have been asking for. There’s the double-whammy of Gallic dream team Gesaffelstein and Brodinski, the much-awaited Zedd booking, Europe’s house heroine Nina Kraviz, the always-mind-messing Mr Oizo and fast-rising boy wonder Porter Robinson. Then there are hot topics in their respective scenes, like bass-heavy outfit Krewella and French party collective Club Cheval. There’s so much more as well, you’re probably better off just diving straight into the line-up!
The first release tickets go on sale 9am, Thursday 2 August, through Ticketmaster – the festival’s new ticket-seller.
