Skepta has cancelled all his Australian tour dates

UK grime artist Skepta has cancelled all of his upcoming tour dates in Australia, which was scheduled to kick off tomorrow night in Perth.

In a statement just released, the promoter advised that “with deep disappointment and due to circumstances beyond his control, Skepta has regrettably been forced to cancel all 11 dates on his upcoming Australia/NZ tour.”

A further official statement reads:

“With deep disappointment, Skepta is not able to travel to Australia and New Zealand at this time for an unexpected and personal reason. His tour, planned to commence on Saturday 17 September 2016 is regrettably cancelled. Full ticket refunds will be available on all shows from point of purchase. We are working in close conjunction with the Artist’s booking agency and management in order to organise a new run of shows in 2017.”

Ticketholders should received an email with the relevant information in regards to refunds. Skepta had locked in seven headlining dates around the country, most of which completely sold out.

The news comes only hours after he was awarded the 2016 Mercury prize for his album Konnichiwa, beating out the likes of David Bowie, Radiohead, and The 1975.
