The short film Porter Robinson created for ‘Shelter’ will make you cry
Two months ago Porter Robinson broke his post-Worlds silence with Shelter, a bright, pop-tinged collaboration with his longtime friend Madeon.
Today, the pair have unveiled the official video for Shelter – only it’s a whole lot more than your average dance clip. Turns out that Porter has spent the last year working with Japanese anime studio A-1 Pictures on Shelter: The Animation, a six minute short film set to he and Madeon’s music. Porter himself wrote the story for the anime, which as he tells it follows “a girl living alone in a simulation built by her father to save her from the end of the world.”
Fittingly, Porter debuted the Shelter video on a billboard in Tokyo last night, but for the rest of this year he’ll be on the road in North America with Madeon for the Shelter Live Tour. Rather than one act playing after the other, the dates will see both guys sharing the stage in a special “back-to-back live show”. The tour has the pair booked up through until December – so start crossing your fingers that they add some Australian dates to the run for 2017 now.
