RÜFÜS track ‘Innerbloom’ just scored a very unexpected makeover
Since its release back in 2015, RÜFÜS’ ten-minute epic ‘Innerbloom’ has grown to become one of the Sydney trio’s best-loved tracks.
It was such a remix staple in 2016 that the band released an Innerbloom Remixes EP in October, featuring edits from the likes of Sasha, Lane 8, What So Not and German duo andhim. What So Not’s club-ready rework of the track was so popular it even landed at #30 in the Hottest 100.
RÜFÜS now have another version to add to their collection, courtesy of Australian indie artists Dustin Tebbutt and Lisa Mitchell, who have given the track a moody acoustic makeover.
“I’ve wanted to do a cover of ‘Innerbloom’ for a while now, it’s my favourite tune off RÜFÜS’ last record,” Tebbutt wrote on Facebook. “When Lisa and I were talking about doing a cover together we had a bunch of more traditional singer songwriter songs on the list, but this one really stood out as a bit of a challenge.”
“We often use the word ‘songs’ when describing pop or folk, and tend to lean more to ‘tracks’ the closer we get to the electronic end of the spectrum, but for me ‘Innerbloom’ is the perfect sweet spot between both. Hopefully we’ve done it some justice in this version!”
