Fans injured as roof collapses at Steve Aoki show in Oslo

Fifteen people have been reported injured after the ceiling collapsed at popular venue Sentrum Scene in Oslo.

As reported by The Mirror, the venue was at capacity with at least 1700 people inside, waiting for Steve Aoki to perform later that night. According to reports, the roof began to crumble at about 5.30pm local time. A one-square-metre piece of plaster fell from the ceiling above the stage area, however, the injuries of attendees have not been deemed to be serious at this time.

The venue was immediately evacuated by police. There are currently conflicting reports as to whether the DJ was on stage at the time of the incident.

Steve Aoki has since responded to the incident:

It’s the latest in a run of awful incidents for Aoki – last week he formally apologised for breaking a fan’s neck at a show in 2012. The apology came after court proceedings involving the venue, San Diego’s Hard Rock Cafe, and the audience member injured, Brittany Hickman. Aoki was leaping from a speaker into a life raft in the crowd when he landed directly on Hickman’s head, breaking her neck.

The Hickman family consequently sued the venue and Aoki for $10 million in damages in 2013. Last week a jury ruled in favour of Hard Rock Cafe, and Aoki was dismissed for liability (Aoki had previously settled with Hickman for an undisclosed amount).
