Richie Hawtin updates Plastikman Live for world tour

When techno futurist Richie Hawtin brought his Plastikman Live set-up to Future Music Festival in March, he was already thinking about the next version. “After Australia, everything will come back to Berlin and we’ll dismantle, rebuild, and then start to think about going to 1.2 or 1.5, or whatever the next revision will be,” he told us in our Honour Roll feature.

Lo and behold, the Plastikman 1.5 UK tour has just been announced. Hawtin will take his mind-bending live rig to three concert venues in December, with an enhanced focus on interactivity and visual immersion. The team behind Plastikman Live has brought in new technologies and tricks to create version 1.5, and you can be sure they’ll do an exacting job of it. These UK shows will be the opening stage of first-ever standalone Plastikman world tour that you can keep up-to-date with here.

“These dates will represent the last opportunities for fans to catch Plastikman Live in its current form: the 1.5 version of the show we’ve spent nearly a year of fine-tuning,” Hawtin says in the press notes. “After that, Plastikman will be returning to the shadows to begin work on a brand new 2.0 concept. The fall tour will be full of surprises, and the performance will continue to be spontaneous and unique for every show – the way I believe live music should be performed in 2011.”

Plastikman Live (1.0) in the Likes Of You tent at Future Music Festival is on the short-list of ‘Best Festival Moments’ in the 2011 inthemix awards, which you can vote on here. Take a trip back there in the video below.
