If there’s one thing we’ve learnt in our years on the Daft Punk beat, it’s that tour rumours about the French robots are best taken with a grain of salt.
But that hasn’t stopped the internet collectively hyperventilating about the latest hint that Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo might be about to hit the road. Reddit users have unearthed a website, Alive2017.com, that some are suggesting is about to announce a new Daft Punk tour. Reddit users say the site’s source code contains numbers that act as coordinates for shows in cities like Paris, London, New York, Tokyo and Coachella’s home of Indio, California (sadly, there’s none for Australia).
With the website also containing the phrase ‘WAKE DATE 016-10-27’, some Redditors think that an announcement could be set for October 27.
While there is good reason to think Daft Punk could tour next year – their previous tours took place in 1997 and 2007 – as yet there’s nothing that confirms Alive2017.com is legit. The website is currently registered to a user in the Central American country of Panama and hasn’t been confirmed by Daft Punk’s label or the duo themselves. Make up your own mind on Alive2017.com.
