Red Bull Music Academy is coming to Sydney for a studio takeover

Last October, inthemix’s Katie Cunningham explored the creative mecca of Red Bull Music Academy, but she had to travel to Tokyo to do it. Now it’s been announced that Sydney will get a taste of the RBMA experience, with a week-long takeover of the legendary Studios 301 set to kick off from February 2.

It won’t be the full, immersive Academy (Paris gets that honour and applications are open now) but the Sydney programme still sounds pretty incredible. Those lucky enough to be invited will experience impromptu studio sessions with Flight Facilities, Touch Sensitive, Seekae, Jonti, Charles Murdoch and more, plus a bunch of brain-soaking lectures and info sessions from local and international music industry veterans. Goodgod Small Club owner Jimmy Sing and Warp Records mainstay Mark Pritchard will be amongst those speaking, as will the fresher faces of RBMA alumni Lewis Cancut and Mark Maxwell.

Given that the focus of the event is electronic music, it’s no surprise that there’ll also be a few parties going down too, and even those not in attendance can be a part of that. The main event will be a takeover of Sydney’s FBi Radio from 3-6pm on Wednesday February 4. Flight Facilities, Touch Sensitive, Dreems and more will be spinning for hours at Studios 301, broadcast live on 94.5 FM and online, after which the Academy will keep on rolling until its end on Friday.

In the meantime, you can also grab “a snapshot of some of the stunning output from the global Red Bull Music Academy events,” with the Various Assets – Not For Sale compilation, featuring 35 solo and collab’ tracks produced by participants at 2014’s RBMA in Tokyo.
