It’s been over a year since we last heard new music from Porter Robinson, he and Madeon’s bright, pop-tinged collaborative anthem ‘Shelter’.
But now Porter is back with a new single — and a brand new alias to go with it. Today, Robinson unveiled his new project Virtual Self with the DDR-inspired debut single ‘Eon Break’. With a happy hardcore bent and the sky-high BPM to go with it, ‘Eon Break’ a definite departure from the sound of his 2014 debut album Worlds, but still retains Porter’s trademark attention to melody.
So what else do we know about Virtual Self? Sweet fuck all, right now. Robinson tweeted and emailed his mailing list a link to the ‘Eon Break’ video but as yet, there’s been no official statement about what we can expect from the new project.

There’s good reason to hope ‘Eon Break’ won’t be the last Virtual Self track we hear — in an interview with inthemix last year around the release of ‘Shelter’, Porter revealed that he had new music on the way. “I can’t really confirm a new album for me necessarily,” he said. “I just know that I’m working on a lot of music and I don’t know how it’s going to be presented or what form it’s going to take, but that’s where I’m at.”
Since he and Madeon wrapped their mammoth Shelter tour — which included three shows in Australia — Porter’s kept a fairly low profile, surfacing to play shows at Vegas superclubs and festivals like Ultra Japan.
