Pete Tong announces Australian tour, picks the Essential Tunes of 2013

As the face (well, voice) of Radio 1’s Essential Mix and Essential Selection shows, it’s fair to say that Pete Tong is the most influential tastemaker in the whole of dance music, with the ear of the entire world. He was even awarded an MBE by the Queen a few weeks ago for services to music and broadcasting.

So you know he’ll have a bag full of cutting-edge house weapons (as demonstrated in his recent back-to-back masterclass with portly house guy Eats Everything) when he lands in Australia next week to play the Heineken Live Stage at the Australian Open, alongside two side shows at Fabrique in Melbourne and Marquee in Sydney.

Tong wrapped up the biggest tunes of 2013 last week with his Essential New Tunes 2013 mix, covering 44 tracks over nearly three hours with everything from Duke Dumont’s Need You (100%) and Avicii’s Wake Me Up to Bicep and Wolf + Lamb. Give it a listen below and get prematurely nostalgic for the year that was.

Pete Tong tour dates
