Pacha Sydney announces stellar launch line-up
Last month, inthemix announced that international clubbing empire Pacha is set to expand to Sydney, with the curtain falling on Saturday 24 November. Pacha – which already has a presence in night-life hotspots like London, New York, Munich and of course Ibiza – will be taking over ivy every Saturday night, with the venue transformed into a “mad burlesque of circus, dance and sensory overload”. Expect aerialists, performers and psychedelic projections paired with ivy’s 10 bars, four levels and 14 VIP spaces, plus of course a soundtrack worthy of the Ibiza original.
Now comes the time to reveal the line-up for the launch Saturday 24 November. In a word, it’s impressive. After packing out the mainstage at Stereosonic’s sold-out Sydney stop that day, two of the leading names in big-room house Laidback Luke and Martin Solveig will be headed for Pacha. Both DJs have had a mammoth year in 2012, regularly crossing paths at some of the world’s biggest festivals (after pulling a vast crowd to the mainstage at Tomorrowland in Belgium, Solveig joined Laidback Luke and Chuckie in the Super You&Me tent as ‘Superman, Batman & Spiderman’). Both DJs are of course celebrated producers as well, so expect two floor-filling sets full of originals, edits and mash-ups.
Two of Pacha Ibiza’s key residents, Sydney’s own dynamo Mo Funk and Axtone Records recruit Matt Caseli, will also play the launch. Then there’s the local line-up, including Minx, Nina Las Vegas, Devola and YokoO, that’ll span party-ready house to deeper, techier sounds. You can also scroll down to see the list of DJs set to appear on the regular at Pacha Sydney.
Jeff Drake, one of the city’s most adaptable DJs, is Pacha Sydney’s Music Director. “Curating Pacha Sydney’s musical direction meant capturing the spirit of Pacha Ibiza without losing sight of Australia’s own musical landscape,” he says. “To do this it was important to build a diverse offering that is relevant and on point with today’s music styles, but also ahead of the curve in bringing new sounds to Australia.”
Pacha’s New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day line-ups will be announced in the coming weeks. First up, though: expect a spectacular first run on Saturday 24 November. Head to the official website for limited tickets.
