Odd Future hit out at Big Day Out
If there’s one band you can count to stir shit wherever they go, it’s Odd Future. The latest poor-taste venture from Tyler The Creator’s rap collective (besides getting ”#mustybutthole” to trend on Twitter yesterday) has been to hit out at the festival they’re currently touring with, Big Day Out.
In response to being booted off the Auckland Big Day Out lineup over homophobia allegations, the group has released a t-shirt for sale in New Zealand reading ‘Big Gay Out’. Witty, no?
But that’s not the only piece of Odd Future fashion available – the group also went to work on a t-shirt featuring a picture of two cats having sex, accompanied by the caption ‘two dudes’. Tyler explained the design in a Tweet, writing “And Since New ZealandBbig Day Out Booted Us Cause They Think I’m Homophobic Or Whatever, I Made A Tee For NZ With Two Gay Cats Fucking.” Yes, the logic is faultless.
But as if pre-empting another round of homophobia allegations, female Odd Future member Syd the Kyd recently opened up about her own sexuality with LA Weekly (via Vibe). “Over the years I’ve come across so many dyke singers, dyke rappers, people with real heart and passion, and it’s a shame that not one of them has made it. And I get it; the world is just now starting to become open about homosexuality.”
With the Big Day Out tour having only just kicked off, there’s sure to be plenty of Odd Future related drama in the weeks to come. In the meanwhile, you can check out Odd Future side-project The Internet’s brand new, NSFW video for Fastlane below.
