No Big Day Out in 2015 but promoters confirm plans to return

Big Day Out promoters, American based company C3 Presents, have confirmed to inthemix’s sister site FasterLouder that there won’t be a festival in 2015 – but have also indicated that they have plans to resurrect the tour.

“C3 Presents is proud to own Big Day Out, one of the most iconic and established festival brands in the world,” they told FL. “While we intend to bring back the festival in future years, we can confirm there will not be a Big Day Out in 2015. We love working on BDO and are excited about the future.”

Yesterday news broke that promoter AJ Maddah is no longer involved in the Big Day Out and that no bookings have been made at the venues where the BDO has been held in recent years. According to documents lodged with the Australian Securities and Investment Commission on June 13, it appears that Maddah and his wife Joanna Ward (collectively trading as MADJO) transferred their 50 percent stake in the festival over to C3 Presents, who bought into the Big Day Out in January 2012. On the same day, Maddah stood down as Big Day Out director.

Maddah bought into the Big Day Out in September 2013, purchasing founding owner Ken West’s stake of the festival. According to Fairfax reports, the festival lost between $8- and $15-million on the 2014 event, which was headlined by Pearl Jam and Arcade Fire, but was marred by Blur’s 11th hour cancellation.
