Motez is throwing a fundraising gig for the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre
Adelaide’s dancefloor king Motez is teaming up with promoters Day Club to raise funds for the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre.
It’s a cause very close to Motez’s heart, and with good reason: this year marks his 10th anniversary in Australia, having come here from Baghdad during the Iraq War. He previously spoke about his experiences as a refugee in a widely circulated Facebook post earlier this year.
“I feel that we need to tackle the issue of people seeking asylum in a more positive way and help out as much as we can,” Motez said in a statement about the event. “I strongly believe that it is time to not only celebrate those who came, and are coming, to Australia to find a new and better life, but also to celebrate our beautiful city of Adelaide in the heart of the one of the best wine regions in the world.”
“We want to generate as much money possible to support ASRC as they play, in my opinion, a vital role in helping those seeking asylum and resettling in Australia.”
It’s all happening on Saturday, December 3 at the Alpha Box & Dice Winery in McLaren Vale with Motez playing alongside Flamingo and Meryl Creep. Importantly, all proceeds will go to the ASRC – so get your hands on tickets here, or if you can’t make the event but still want to donate, head here.
