Meet the ten ‘next big things’ at EMC Play

At last year’s EMC we introduced the very first Spotlight showcase, issuing an open invitation to dance music producers around the country to submit their best work, in the hope of being picked to play a showcase in front of an audience of A&Rs, talent bookers and media. One thing quickly became clear: there’s a lot of talent out there. From over 250 applications, we whittled down six acts to perform at EMC 2014; since then, all the 2013 alumni have gone onto bigger and better things and some – like KLP and SAFIA – have gone huge.

This year, we brought in EMC Play’s Head of Programming Dan Zilber (former Music Director at FBi Radio) to scour the country and find ten rising Showcase stars – the acts we’re tipping for huge things in 2015. Some will be names you’ll recognise from club bills around the country, others you might be hearing for the first time; but on 3 and 4 December you’ll get to see them perform in person, as part of the stacked line-up of EMC Play, which sees 20 of the country’s biggest labels, agencies and media brands get together to throw two nights of parties in Kings Cross.

One lucky artist performing at EMC Play will even walk away as the JD Future Legend. The EMC programming committee will be keeping a close eye on every artist playing, and giving a $5K award – based on creative merit and artistic merit – to one producer to put towards international travel to an overseas music industry event. Always wanted to visit ADE or SXSW? Now’s your chance. Get acquainted with the future stars of Australian dance to the right.
