Marquee’s 2012 Vegas residents (so who’ll be coming to Sydney?)

The news that US powerhouse The Tao Strategic Group is bringing its Marquee Nightclub to Sydney’s The Star has been one of this month’s biggest talking points. The club is part of a $870 million redevelopment at the casino – hardly chump change – and is set to feature three main rooms with views of Sydney Harbour. Las Vegas Weekly reported this week that Marquee is set to occupy the ‘top floor’ of The Star, with the tail-end of March still pencilled in for the grand opening.

It’s no surprise that Tao is looking to expand its club empire. In the recent Nightclub & Bar Awards in the US, Marquee Las Vegas came in at #1 for ‘Mega-Club of the Year’. The list is based on revenue and Marquee’s reported haul of $70-$80 million in 2011 saw it elbow out Vegas competition like XS and Pure for the top spot.

Those healthy earnings have allowed Marquee to lock in a coveted cast of exclusive residents for its 2012 season, and today the club has announced its latest additions. None other than trance don Armin van Buuren has been secured on exclusive terms alongside Arty, Dash Berlin, Cosmic Gate, Gareth Emery, Hardwell and Ferry Corsten among others. They join already-announced residents Kaskade, Chuckie and Gabriel & Dresden.

Clearly Marquee is a club with deep pockets, and with The Star behind it in Sydney, can we expect some of these DJs to make the long haul to Australia for ‘one night only’? With Marquee’s opening fast approaching, inthemix will keep you updated on all the developments. In the meantime, check out our showcase gallery of official photos from the Las Vegas club. They don’t do things by halves.
