For two decades now, Radio 1’s iconic Essential Mix has travelled to Ibiza every Northern Hemisphere summer to celebrate dance hedonism in its spiritual home.
Last weekend, the annual ‘Radio 1 Ibiza Weekend’ saw the Essential Mix reins handed to Hot Since 82, who delivered an unusually-long three-hour set of deep, hypnotic and jacking house and techno, closing out the Space Terrace for Richie Hawtin’s ENTER party (listen to it here).
But Radio 1’s been looking backward as well as forward, delving into its archives to dig out some classic Essential Mixes recorded over two decades in Ibiza, and over the past week it’s been dropping fifteen classic mixes one by one. So far they’ve collated 10 classic Ibiza Essential Mixes on the iPlayer (over here), but to make things easy for you, we’ve collected streams of them all, which you can listen to below.
It’s a mixed – but epic – bag, covering everything from the very first Essential Mix recorded in Ibiza with Balearic superstar Nicky Holloway to Ibiza chillout legend Jose Padilla’s first Essential Mix, classic old school sessions with Carl Cox, Sasha and Pete Tong, Swedish House Mafia’s seminal debut, Deadmau5 getting proggy while Luciano gets tribal and jacking, and an all-time double bill of Underworld and Eric Prydz.
Scroll down to listen to them all and immerse yourself in some serious Ibiza party vibes (and start your planning for the epic Southern Hemisphere summer to come).
