Listen: The essential end of semester playlist

The best moments in life are often the most random or unexpected ones. Just ask party whisky J&B. To celebrate the launch of J&B Mash-Up, we’re bringing you a series of articles on some of the best unpredicted moments and mash-ups in life.

Research might’ve proven that classical music helps you study, but we’ll cram to some solid dance tunes over anything of the Mozart cannon any day, thank you. So whether you’re in the final throes of exams or done for the year and ready to get into party mode, we’ve put together a playlist of some of the most appropriate tracks for the end of the semester and the start of summer holidays. Crank that volume up, get stuck in and enjoy.

Fatboy Slim – Eat Sleep Rave Repeat

It’s the dance anthem of 2013, so what better tune to kick off your no-more-uni playlist with than Eat, Sleep, Rave, Repeat. Because with exams out of the way, that’s going to be pretty much all you do for the next few months…right?

Skrillex & Alvin Risk – Try it Out (Neon Mix)

If it’s a high-octane party stater you’re after, look no further than the Neon Mix of Skrillex and Alvin Risk’s thumping collab’ Try It Out. You’ll want to turn that volume up high.

Daft Punk – One More Time

Over a decade after its release, Daft Punk’s One More Time still ranks as one of the best hands-in-the-air tunes out there. No wonder it was voted the best dance record of all time this year.

Bondax – Giving it All

Whether you’ve got uni done and dusted or you’re still slogging through the final weeks, odds are you’re going to be in need of a smooth, summery jam to see you through. Allow Bondax’s Giving It All to help.

El Guincho – Bombay

Maybe it’s that video, but something about El Guincho’s Bombay just makes you really, really want to live in an endless loop of long, hot summer nights.

Julio Bashmore – Peppermint

You can count on this one being on high-rotation around the country all summer long (especially with Julio headed our way for a run of New Year’s festivals), so you may as well get a head start on Peppermint now.

Cut Copy – Free Your Mind

So, you’ve just come out the other end of a solid few months’ worth of late-night cramming, longform essays and general brain overload. So this would be a pretty good time to – ahem – “free your mind” with Cut Copy.

Bodhi – Imperfection

There’s no gimmick here, Imperfection is just a damn solid toe-tapping track. Enjoy.

Para One – You Too

What would a summer playlist be without some banging French electro? Parisian Para One’s free-to-download gem You Too fills the quota nicely.

LCD Soundsystem – All My Friends

If there’s a better ode to friendship and getting a little bit older out there, we haven’t heard it. Put on James Murphy’s seven-minute epic before your first post-uni celebration and heed the moral of the story: the more you get out in the ‘real world’, the more you just want to hang out with your friends.

Dr Alban – Sing Hallelujah

Last but not least, there’s Dr Alban’s 90s pop-house euphoric gem. Cast aside your pretensions and crank this up as you hand in that final project – this is victory lap music.
