Listen: Moby goes hard in an hour-long ‘Electro Mix’
After a whirlwind run of North American bookings in recent months – including festival slots at Electric Forest, Mysteryland and last weekend’s Hudson Project (before the storms hit) – electronic trailblazer Moby has hit SoundCloud with a new DJ mix simply titled ‘July 2014 (Electro).’
As we learnt from Moby’s one-off Sydney DJ gig last year, the 48 year-old dance pioneer has embraced DJing – and big-room house – with renewed vigour of late, and this mix is a perfect encapsulation of where he’s at. After opening with a snippet of his own down-tempo classic Natural Blues, Moby romps through a roll-call of recent electro-house hits from DJ Snake, Congorock, Firebeatz, Charlie Darker and more. Also included is his latest release on Steve Aoki’s Dim Mak flagship, a collaboration with Brazilian big-roomer Darth & Vader called Death Star, and his unreleased team-up with ACTI, Ow.
While he’s traveling to Canada to DJ at the Shambhala Music Festival in August, Moby’s been choosing his tour schedule carefully this year. “I travel maybe once every two months, but I try not to leave North America, because I really don’t like long flights and jet-lag,” the producer revealed in a chat with inthemix earlier this year. “I’ve spent the last 25 years touring, going back and forth to Asia, South America, Europe, Australia, and so now I’m really trying to focus on things that can only be done at home, which includes having relationships and developing other creative projects.”
Until the next time Moby ventures out of his LA headquarters to a club or festival stage near you, this high-octane mix will do the trick.
