Listen: Alison Wonderland steps up for a scorching Diplo & Friends mix
After throwing down his own two-hour session last week Diplo’s latest episode of his BBC Radio 1 show brings back the guests. Over the weekend, the Diplo & Friend ’s broadcast saw a couple of acts from different Hemispheres bringing the heat, and you can listen again to the mixes below.
Up first were Mad Decent affiliates TWRK – “not the dance move, the DJ crew,” as Diplo puts it – with an hour of “all the latest bass-heavy shakers.” Production and DJ partners Benzi & DJ eSenTRIK will be familiar to avid fans of Diplo & Friends, and this time around they lean on their own remixes and edits, plus music from Milo & Otis, Skrillex, Keys N Krates, RL Grime & What So Not, Major Lazer and more.
Then it’s over to homegrown star Alison Wonderland for the second hour. Introduced by the host as “one of the best DJs from Australia,” the rising star throws down a party-igniting session. Her own edits and studio originals are put to use alongside bass gems by Hudson Mohawke, Salva, Flosstradamus and co., flashes of hip hop from Dead Prez, Kendrick Lamar and Naughty By Nature, plus fellow Australian hype-magnets like Wave Racer, Hermitude, Tame Impala and Motez. As Diplo puts it in her introduction, “How many more DJs do you know who started as a cellist and then was in an indie band?” Listen to both mixes below or over at the BBC Radio 1 website.
