Juan Atkins Australian tour cancelled

In an unfortunate turn of events, Detroit techno originator Juan Atkins has been ordered by doctors to cancel his upcoming tour of Australia. Falling ill with a serious case of food poisoning which left him hospitalised, Atkins is slowly improving but was advised by doctors that he would not be ready to travel in time for his scheduled visit to our shores.

Due to play shows at Smalltown in Melbourne this Friday, TechPhonics in Adelaide this Saturday and Astral People in Sydney next weekend, Atkins’ tour was hotly anticipated after a successful visit back in 2010 and his recent excellent productions (such as the quirky OFI, which was released on the legendary R&S Recordings). At this stage there is no confirmed information regarding rescheduled tour dates, however tour ringleaders Novel have assured us that they are currently working on getting Juan out here as soon as possible.

All is not lost, however. Friday’s Smalltown gig will still be featuring Phil Kieran and Funk D’Void, who will now be playing extended sets and ticket holders will be entitled to a $5.50 discount on their entry as well as guaranteed entry to Atkins’ show when it happens (alternatively, you can get a full refund on your ticket).
