ITM Exclusive: Ta-ku remixes Empire of the Sun’s new single

Electro-pop-fantasy-world overlords Empire of the Sun are launching their new album’s second single DNA (the one with the film clip where brilliant super-kooks Steele and Littlemore cruise around in a bus and throw a pretty banging house party) by releasing it with a six-part remix package that includes an edit by Australian beat-maker of the moment Ta-ku (alongside such minor names as Calvin Harris, Yuksek, Brodinski, Alex Metric and The Aston Shuffle).

Ta-ku has already re-rubbed Flume, The Presets, Snakadaktal, Oisima, Cosmo’s Midnight and others, adding his signature off-kilter taste for beats. We have an exclusive listen to his remix for Empire of the Sun below, where he gives the synth-pop delicacy some swagger, with staccato drums and a woozy jungle bassline – the end result is almost unrecognisable from the original.

As for Empire of the Sun, they’re currently on a comprehensive tour of the USA, consolidating their first placing in the American charts’ top 20 with Ice on the Dune, in between calling out Daft Punk for having “worse songs” than them. They’ll be back in the country, extravagant headdresses and all, for the massive Stereosonic tour in November and December. The single and remix bundle will be out on Tuesday September 24 through EMI.
