Ibiza clubs hit with new 6.30am closing time

It might have a rep’ as the home of hedonism but for its 2016 season, Ibiza will be reigning it in – a little bit. According to reports on the island, an agreement reached by authorities on Thursday means that clubs will have to close at 6.30am next Northern summer.

The island’s governing council voted on the new closing hours yesterday, with the changes affecting smaller venues as well as superclubs. Beach clubs will have to cut the music at midnight and bars must close at 5am, with Vincent Torres, President of the Island Council, warning that they will “adopt penalties that are commensurate with the offence committed” if venues fail to close on time. According to Ibiza blogger Man In San An, authorities are taking particular aim at Amnesia, which closed late on 15 occasions during the 2015 seasons, including an impressive seven hours late for their epic 2015 closing party.

Previously, Ibiza’s clubs operated under individual licenses with parties regularly running into the daytime hours at superclubs like Space, Pacha, DC-10, Sankeys and repeat offender Amnesia.

The new closing times aren’t the only big news to come out of Ibiza at the end of its 2015 season. Earlier this month, Carl Cox announced that next year will be his last in residence at Space Ibiza, ending his epic 15-year run with the club.
