Hear the Essential Mix hit Space Ibiza for “the very last time”
If you’re suffering from a virulent case of Ibiza FOMO, the recent run of Essential Mixes probably isn’t helping. For the past few weeks, Pete Tong and co. have set up shop on the White Isle, beaming out sets from Carl Cox’s long-running Space residency, Solomun at Pacha and Jamie Jones and Nathan Barato doing their thing at DC-10.
Over the weekend, to cap off the mini-series, the Essential Mix returned to Space Ibiza for what Tong calls “the very last time” before the club shuts its doors at the end of this season. (The management of neighbouring club Ushuaïa will take over the lease from longtime owner Pepe Rosello, but Space as we know it is done.)
The show visited Annie Mac and Heidi’s Sundays at Space takeover on August 7 to record three sets in 40-minute segments. As befitting Space Ibiza’s legacy, the club’s final Essential Mix is all about the house. The Black Madonna kicks it off from Heidi’s Jackathon showcase on the Terrace, followed by Derrick Carter in the same space, before we hear part of Dusky’s set from the Annie Mac Presents main room. Warning: you’ll probably wish you were on the dancefloor.
Take a listen to Dusky, Derrick Carter and The Black Madonna’s joint Essential Mix over at the BBC Radio 1 website.
