Hear MK deliver a masterclass Essential Mix live from Ibiza
The 2015 season marks 20 years in Ibiza for BBC Radio 1’s legendary Essential Mix and from last month’s BBC Proms – which enlisted the Heritage Orchestra to reinterpret dance music’s classic hits – to Radio 1’s three night takeover of the White Isle at superclubs like Ushuaïa and Privilege last week, host Pete Tong gave the milestone the celebration it deserves.
But the party’s not over yet – this weekend, the Essential Mix took the recorders to Creamfields Ibiza at Ushuaïa, where dance music dons MK and Steve Angello were each on the line-up of the Radio 1 stage. For MK, the return to the Essential Mix wheel was fortuitous timing. “I did my first Essential Mix in 1995,” the gun born Marc Kinchen told BBC listeners, marking his own 20 year anniversary with Radio 1. “Back then I was so young and I didn’t realise how many people would hear it.”
The Creamfields Ibiza set saw MK work though his heavily-rinsed My Head Is A Jungle remix as well edits for Rudimental, Bakermat and his own brand new single Bring Me To Life. Angello, meanwhile, powers through an epic closing set spanning Jack U, Kygo and The Chemical Brothers. You can hear both sets below, and see the tracklists over on the BBC website.
This summer, MK will make his return to Australia with Stereosonic, where he’s playing the house-heavy The Woods stage alongside Claptone, Claude VonStroke, Hannah Wants, Patrick Topping, Shiba San and Cut Snake.
