Hear a symphony orchestra play club classics at Vivid

If you’ve ever wanted to hear club classics like Darude’s Sandstorm, Shapeshifters Lola’s Theme or Roger Sanchez’s Turn On The Music performed by a symphony orchestra with live vocals by house divas, then you’ll want to get yourself tickets to ‘IGNITE: Symphonic Dance Anthems’, arriving in Sydney next month as part of Vivid and in partnership with inthemix.

Bringing club bangers and classical instruments together has become a popular gig of late: BBC Radio 1’s Ibiza Proms have been reinterpreting dance classics with full orchestras for ages (watch one of the concerts below), and in the past year both Detroit techno wizards Jeff Mills and Derrick May, and local legends Flight Facilities, have teamed up for performances with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.

This time around, it’s the Sydney Youth Orchestra that gets a crack at club classics, with live vocals by house divas Kathy Brown, Peyton, Kristen Pearson and Zoë Badwi. They’re  teaming up with stalwart Mardi Gras selector DJ Dan Murphy and a full light-and-laser production crew to reinterpret “the biggest and best dance anthems” from the 90s to 2016.

It all goes down at Sydney’s City Recital Hall in Angel Place on Sunday 5 June, with a pair of performances at 3pm and 7pm. Tickets are on sale now from $79+BF over here.
