Hardwell reveals who he’s backing for #1 in this year’s DJ Mag 100

Dutch titan Hardwell has taken the title of DJ Mag’s #1 selector for the past two years, but he’s backing a different horse for 2015.

Speaking to MTV, the headliner said if he was to hand over the title to anyone, he’d want it to be countryman Martin Garrix. “As a DJ I think he’s been flawless these last few years and in the studio he’s making fantastic music, which really has this amazing vibe and energy to it when played in clubs,” Hardwell told MTV. “His experience is really shining through; he has all the makings of a number one.”

The stats certainly back Garrix as the new #1, if he can convert his social following to votes: earlier this month, management consultancy group DDMCA looked at four areas of social media interaction – audience, engagement, applause and conversation – and found that the teenage superstar eclipsed the other big acts surveyed in three of them (he lost out only on social following, the category in which dance statesman Tiesto excelled). We’ll know whether Hardwell will take the crown for the third year running this October, when the results of DJ Mag’s annual poll are revealed at the Amsterdam Dance Event. Martin Garrix came in at #4 in 2014’s poll.
