Gender equality movement Nap Girls is coming to Australia

If you follow Skrillex on Instagram, by now you’ve probably seen the OWSLA head post photos with his eyes closed and head tilted to the side, resting on two hands. That’s the unofficial pose of Nap Girls, the dance music gender equality movement that began in Los Angeles in 2014 and quickly recruited the likes of Alison Wonderland and Mija.

Now, Nap Girls is coming to Australia. The movement – which bills itself as “a collaborative organisation whose mission is to connect and empower women and GNC individuals by nurturing creative and professional growth” – has officially set up shop Down Under and you can welcome them to town this month at EMC. (Full disclosure – this writer is a member.)

Nap Girls are officially launching in Australia with a showcase at EMCPlay, presented together with Deeper Than House. Naturally, they’ve recruited an all star cast of badass local women – plus superstars-in-wait Human Movement – to play. Sideboob, Mimi, NatNoiz, Val York and CKDJ will all join the Nap Girls AU DJs on the decks at the showcase, which hits Oxford Circus on Wednesday November 30.

To be there, you need to pick up a ticket to EMCPlay – they’re going for $29, and that gets you into every single EMCPlay show. Join the Nap Girls mission on their Facebook page.
