Footballer slammed for DJing at “dubious” club Revolver

If extra-curricular clubbing activities have ever caused you trouble at work, spare a thought today for Hawthorn footballer Ben Stratton.

Stratton has found himself in hot water over a DJ set he played at notorious Melbourne nightspot Revolver over the weekend. The AFL star supported Italy’s DJ Tennis at Revs on Sunday evening, playing a short back-to-back set that kicked off at the hedonistic hour of 8pm – enough for Channel 9 show Footy Classified to devote an entire segment to the dubious ethics of DJing.

While Stratton’s club Hawthorn have defended his set, the panel at Footy Classified were less impressed.

For journalist Caroline Wilson, the problem comes down to the club Stratton played at. “Revolver surprised me,” she told the panel. “I mean I’m not saying it’s a den of iniquity, but it has been in the news a lot lately…I don’t think it’s a particularly good look, no.” Wilson is referring to a cluster of drug overdoses that occurred at Chapel St venues including Revolver in January.

“I just think the club in question’s a dubious one,” added panelist Craig Hutchinson. “I don’t like the look of him being in a place like that.” Maybe the crew at Footy Classified read that tell-all Reddit AMA?

Was it appropriate for Ben Stratton to DJ at Revolver Upstairs nightclub six days out from the home and away season?
