First Listen: Nom De Strip and Nezzo, “Devil’s BBQ”

A tantalizing preview debuted earlier this week, but ITM has the exclusive first listen to Nom De Strip and Nezzo’s “Devil’s BBQ.” The track will drop August 12 on Chris Lake’s Rising Music.

The label has been on a roll in recent months, as Lake has developed a roster of artists that create innovative, trend-setting dance music. Lake is showcasing these sounds on this fall’s Rising Tour, and “Devil’s BBQ” is the perfect release to kick off the North American trek. “Nom De Strip is, in my opinion, the Tommy Trash of 2013, consistently making the tracks everyone wants to drop,” Lake says of his tourmate. “It’s no coincidence if you go to a festival you’ll hear Nom’s tracks in different arenas at the same event.”

When it comes to Rising’s latest release, Lake says, “Nom and Nezzo have nailed it with ‘Devil’s BBQ,’ delivering something unique, big room and sonically engaging, a combination most other producers fail to deliver.”

We couldn’t agree more: There’s a lot going on in “Devil’s BBQ,” but Nom De Strip and Nezzo combine disparate sounds easily, offering a new surprise with each drop. It starts with an ominous video game-inspired synth line and big build-up and, with a vocal flourish, drops into a wild, tribal tech-house beat. The bridge picks up on the haunting vibes with which the track began, before giving way to a sharp synth melody and an over-the-top final drop. We could talk about “Devil’s BBQ” for days, but listen for yourself and pick it up this Monday, August 12.
