EMC has announced its first round of speakers for 2016
The Electronic Music Conference is inching closer and closer, bringing the best minds in electronic music right here to Sydney. It’s returning this year as one week of activities that celebrate electronic music culture.
Amsterdam’s Night Mayor Mirik Milan has already been revealed as a keynote, but now EMC have revealed the stellar first lineup of speakers that will take part in a packed program of panels, workshops, masterclasses, and roundtables throughout the week.
Joining Milan for the panel Nightlife: The Future Of Australia’s Night Time Culture will be Music Victoria’s Patrick Donovan, who will bring some much needed local expertise to try and find a solution to fixing Australia’s nightlife.
The man behind Daft Punk’s famous Alive Tour pyramid design, as well as live shows by The Presets and Deadmau5, Martin Phillips, is going to be on hand for panel Lights + Music: Exploring Live Show Creation. He’ll be joined by locals Toby + Pete who have worked on some of the biggest live shows and videos of recent times – you have them to thank for Flume’s Infinity Prism, and the live shows of Flight Facilities and RUFUS.
Other names on the list are Chicago DJ and trans icon Honey Dijon, who will head up the panel Express Yourself: How LGBTI Culture is Pioneering the Club Experience; Raj Chaudhuri (Head of Music at Boiler Room), who is coming to present Coming To You Live: Connecting With Audiences Through Live Streaming; and Rhythm Section label founder Bradley Zero will discuss vinyl’s recent rise in popularity in Pressing Matters: Why Vinyl Is On The Rise.
triple j Unearthed’s Dave Ruby Howe is also on hand as the programmer of EMCPlay – a huge night of parties showcasing the best in new talent. Applications are closing August 28th. Get in and apply to showcase for the chance to play alongside Australia’s electronic royalty.
There are over 150 speakers to be announced, so this is just the very first (and very good) taste at what is to come. Scroll down for the full list of speakers.
EMC will take over the Ivy in Sydney’s CBD from from Monday November 28 to Friday December 2, with the EMCPlay showcases happening on Wednesday, November 30.
Early bird tickets are now on sale (hurry – they end September 21) from $99. Grab them here.
