Elton John vs. Pnau goes to #1

A career spanning more than five decades has not stopped Sir Elton John from topping the UK charts once more. Taking Sydney electro duo Pnau under his wing, and allowing them complete access to his old masters, the somewhat unusual collaboration has yielded Elton John’s first UK number one album in 22 years.

The eight-track album features elements from Elton John classics between 1970 and 1976, as reimagined by Nick Littlemore and Peter Mayes, and is receiving largely positive reviews. The album’s lead single Good Morning To The Night has been selected as one of five official songs for the London Olympics and the just-released second lead single Sad is already a top 15 on the UK airplay chart, blending five Elton John songs into a distinctively Pnau track.

The album is out this Friday, July 27th, and if you’re keen to check out Sir Elton in traditional piano-man mode, he is touring Australia with his full band in November to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Rocket Man (I Think It’s Going To Be A Long Long Time).
