Electric Daisy secures Swedish House Mafia
The jewel in the crown of Los Angeles dance promoters Insomniac Events, the Electric Daisy Carnival is an ever-growing phenomenon. The festival has several outposts around the US, but its flagship event was always in L.A. In 2011, though, EDC’s main event is happening in Las Vegas on the weekend of June 24-26, debuting a new three-day format. The move to Nevada was the culmination of a hellish string of events following the 2010 EDC.
Last year’s festival drew a staggering 180,000 people to downtown L.A. over one weekend, thanks to a line-up stacked with marquee names like the Swedish House Mafia, Deadmau5, Armin van Buuren, Kaskade and Sasha. However, the Carnival ended in a storm of media scrutiny, following a tragic drug-related death and a number of hospitalisations from a crowd stampede.
You can read about the fallout in more depth here, but it was largely an ‘insurmountable’ dispute with EDC’s regular venue Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum that led to the decision to uproot to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
And now for the good news. Having consolidated their Stateside pull during Miami Music Week, the Swedish House Mafia will close EDC in 2011. The news came via a coded video posted by SHM that was deciphered to read: ‘SHM (… / …. / -) EDC(. / -.. /
.. ) VEGAS(…- / . / . / . / … ) JUNE (.- / ..- / . / . ) 26(.. / -….)’. The three superstar Swedes will be just the tip of the iceberg on what’s sure to be another colossal line-up, but take note of these dates if you’re thinking about a Vegas adventure.
Here’s the SHM transmission revealing their headline slot.
