Deadmau5 deletes his SoundCloud after 33 million plays
If you’re not already a ‘suckscriber’ at live.deadmau5.com, Joel Zimmerman has just given a compelling reason to sign up. From now on, if you’re seeking a hit of Deadmau5 – whether it’s one of his studio sketches or a fully-formed production he’s willing to part with – it’ll all be happening through his ‘fan-centric’ platform. As a result, Zimmerman has unceremoniously deleted the prolific catalog of music on his SoundCloud account, bidding farewell to over 400,000 followers. As the page now reads: “fuckmylife hasn’t shared any public sounds.”
When first announcing his plans for live.deadmau5.com, Zimmerman pitched his vision as “a camp we can all enjoy with no spam. no phony accounts. no bullshit. no annoying kids. no nothing. just unadulterated music and live streams and access to pretty much everything i have on the go.” On the MSG BOREDS, “Everyone can enter and lurk, but only ‘suckscribers’ can post,” including surprisingly-frequent cameos from Zimmerman. From the looks of things, it’s mission accomplished for the ‘mau5.
As the horde was thrilled to hear last week, the new Deadmau5 album is complete, featuring 25 tracks across two discs. It’s something he’s proud of, too. So, will soundcloud.com/fuckmylife stay dormant? After a public purging of his Twitter feed back in November, Zimmerman has gradually returned to tweeting, and he now seems to be firmly back in the groove. A return to SoundCloud, though, may not be so swift. As the man himself unsentimentally signed off: “It was a good run.”
RIP http://t.co/nJHGjO8yPf … wow, 33 million plays on that… it was a good run!
