Deadmau5 and Eric Prydz’s back-to-back set at Tomorrowland looked epic
For the most part, this year’s Tomorrowland was pretty much exactly what you’d expect: David Guetta looked glum on the live stream, the mainstage was decorated with a new storybook theme (this year it was ‘The Elixir of Life’) and superstar DJs like Armin and Tiesto made their annual pilgrimage.
But the Belgian blockbuster did have one big wildcard going for it in 2016: a back-to-back set from Eric Prydz and Deadmau5. On the first day of the festival the two dance heroes showed off a brand new live show – and we mean really live, with keyboards, launchpads, and not a CDJ in sight – and by all accounts, it was a very special experience.
“If you guys thought the cube reveal at coachella was rad… This is some next level shit,” Joel Zimmerman forewarned on Twitter. “No joke, Eric and I and our team spent 3 months on that single show.” Thankfully, Tomorrowland won’t be the last time the pair show it off – the mau5 says they have “plans to expand on it” and “perhaps bring it to the US” soon.
Sadly, the epic back-to-back set wasn’t part of this year’s live stream (Joel says he and Eric decided to keep it “a personal engagement” for those in the crowd) meaning for now we’ll have to settle for fan-shot footage. Get your first look at the show below, then start pestering Prydz and Deadmau5 for an official upload.
