Forget Pokémon Go, Darude’s coming to town and he’s bringing Sandstorm.
This September the man responsible for dance music’s dankest meme will head around the country on an epic nine-date tour of Australia. Kicking things off at Academy in Canberra, Darude will play all major cities as well as Newcastle, the Sunshine Coast and one still-TBA show on September 10.
While it’s a pretty safe bet that Sandstorm will pop up at some point in Darude’s sets, it’s not all producer Ville Virtanen has in his record bag. Darude released his fourth studio album Moments last year, spawning the single Beautiful Alien, and also has classic cuts like Feel The Beat and Out Of Control to his name.
Darude last toured in Australian in 2015 with Future Music Festival, who added him to the bill after a Pozible campaign to bring the hitmaker to the country fell sadly short of target. Around the same time Peking Duk started dropping Sandstorm in their sets at Stereosonic, all of which pushed the track back into the charts some 15 years after its release. Then came the inevitable Shannon Noll mash-up.
18 months later, Sandstorm fever still hasn’t said die – just ask the orchestra who reinterpreted his classic hit at last month’s Vivid Live.
