Craig David and Hardwell have made a garage anthem

Last weekend, big-room boss Hardwell held down Ultra Miami’s Saturday closing set with a pyro-laden session that was heavy on the bangers but stingy with surprises: except for one very unusual guest cameo at the 40-minute mark.

“Are you guys ready for something different?” Hardwell asked the crowd. “For my next single, I want to invite some legendary guy to the stage.” The Dutchman wasn’t exaggerating: it’s safe to say very few people could have predicted that Hardwell’s next guest would be the comeback king of UK Garage, Craig David.

But that’s a real thing that actually happened at Ultra – as Hardwell revealed, his next single will be a bona fide UK Garage burner with the badman Craig David on vocals. Give it a listen below – the track’s all smooth vibes, body-moving bassline and a heavy closing third of buzzsaw synths, as David spits fire over the top.

After years of Walking Away, it looks like the return of Craig David is near complete. His comeback album Following My Intuition is due at some point this year, with other promised collaborators including Diplo and Chase & Status.

In the meantime, David also has a track on Kaytranada’s imminent LP 99.9% due in early May, and he’s also got brand new single Nothing Like This, with Bristol producers Blonde, out right now – listen to it on Spotify here or grab a copy from iTunes.

In the meantime, hit play below to watch the Ultra mainstage crowd get doused with UK Garage for probably the first time in history.
