Cinema release date revealed for Swedish House Mafia’s documentary
Last week Swedish House Mafia hosted special advance screenings of their much-anticipated final-world-tour documentary, Leave The World Behind, including a screening in Sydney that 100 lucky inthemix readers won tickets to. If you missed out, though, the good news is that you’ll have less of a wait than expected to catch the film yourself: Axwell revealed on Facebook today that the film will get an international release in 20 countries (and counting) from next Thursday March 27.
Leave The World Behind premiered at SXSW earlier this month, with Variety calling it “flashy and well-paced [and] boasting plenty of euphoric performance footage to contrast with the enigmatic talking-head interviews… Crestfallen fans looking for an explanation [to SHM’s break-up] won’t find anything explicitly stated here, though director Christian Larson’s intimate access provides enough clues to help them read between the lines.”
“We gave him [Larson] free rein with creativity to do whatever he wants,” Steve Angello told inthemix earlier this year. “That’s one of the reasons we did this film, because I didn’t want to have too much say in it. You can always angle a film however you want, but I trust in his judgement and I trust his portrayal of what we should look like, so hopefully it’s good. I’ve seen some early cuts and there’s some great footage. That was the moment when we sat down and realised just how big of a tour it was.” Head to the Leave The World Behind website to find release details, or register for notification of when the film becomes available in your area.
In the meantime, Swedish House Mafia fans can also console themselves with the news that Steve Angello will be releasing his imprint Size Records’ entire back-catalogue for free on April 1, to celebrate ten years of Size. Head to the Size website for more info on the free catalogue release (and footage of Angello looking pensively out to sea on Sydney’s Bondi to Coogee coastal walk).
